Coffee and mental functions of man
Coffee - one of the most popular drinks in the world - is valued not only for its great taste and refreshing flavor and useful properties. It is believed that it is the caffeine in coffee, energizes and contributes to a better functioning of the brain. However, the mental functions of man and his mood has an effect not only caffeine but also other useful substances contained in coffee. This discovery was made by a study conducted by research centers Nestlé, during which studied the effect of different types of coffee on the behavior and activities of the human brain

Impact coffee in humans, mainly due to the presence therein of caffeine. It relieves fatigue contributes to concentration, has a stimulating effect on the central nervous system, it does not has marked effects on the cardiovascular system with moderate consumption (3-5 cups per day). However, caffeine - is not the only ingredient in coffee that has a positive effect on behavior and mental functions of man. This beverage contains a number of substances that have an antioxidant effect. These include chlorogenic acid, which has been the subject of research scientists from the Scientific-Research Center Nestlé *.

The study compared the effects of different types of coffee on the human mental functions: decaffeinated coffee with normal and elevated levels of chlorogenic acid (CA), coffee with caffeine and placebo. Participants test (elderly people - 39 people aged 53-79 years) daily consume about 3 cups of coffee a day and received a number of logical problems, and then to assess their mood and cognitive abilities. The study showed, as expected, that regular consumption of coffee with caffeine helped improve mood and attention compared to placebo and decaffeinated coffee. It has also been found that the decaffeinated coffee with elevated HC largely improves attention and reduces fatigue (relative to placebo and decaffeinated coffee with normal HC).

Thus, as a result of this study it was first discovered that the addition of caffeine and other ingredients contained in coffee, can improve mood and affect the behavior of factors associated with mood. You should not forget, however, that the above fact was discovered for the first time and therefore requires confirmation in further research.

Chlorogenic acid, among other acids - ferulic and caffeic, as contained in coffee, is a potent of antioxidants. As is known, the main role of antioxidants in the body - the neutralization of free radicals which are formed during oxidation, ultraviolet radiation and the other under the influence of adverse factors. Free radicals are dangerous because they can cause destruction of intracellular structures and the cells of the organism that may lead to the development of some serious diseases. Thus, the chlorogenic acid in coffee does not only affect a person's mood and improve brain function, but also help maintain health.
